150 miles of the WORST racing in the history of Talladega, 28 laps of white knuckle, and 10 laps or absolutely ridiculous demolition-derby. Cars running out
of fuel right at prime time, all kinds of other things going on that have NOTHING to do with real racing. I am completely disgusted. I hope NASCAR is happy
with their last-minute rules changes in the name of safer racing. BS.

Never mind that Ryan Newman was nearly killed, or that MM took a roof ride too.
I wish they would listen to the drivers. |

Not to minimize the problem, but I think saying Newman was 'nearly killed' is a bit of an exaggeration. A scary ride for sure, but no scarier than
most of the stuff that happens at these places, and he wasn't even wounded, from what I saw...
You really have to wonder what will be the outcome of this. Clearly the sanctioning body got it wrong today. Changing the rules literally hours before the flag drops is only going to complicate things, and no driver supported it. The true irony here is that despite all the changes, JimmyJam remains the luckiest of all. He laid back all day, and when it came time to do something, he couldn't, but still managed to pad his lead. I think that pretty much seals the deal on Cup IV...fascinating... "After you play Woodstock on acid, nothing's a big deal anymore" - Carlos Santana

My team of 8 drivers had been averaging 500 points a race, todays total 40, this blows big chunks. We need leadership within NA$CAR, changing rules on race day
is BS

don't hate on bk for merely illustrating what's wrong with nascare's plate program. it doesn't take talent or experience or a great car to run
up front, just let them all be equal and this is what you get.

Beth; Vickers got into Keslowski who then got into Kurt Busch.
I thought Kes did a remarkable job in the Finch car yesterday. I can't even think of anything he's done in the past that would warrant your disapproval. I'm a big Keslowski fan...he's a smart kid and a really good driver. He did very well in that piece of crap car he was driving yesterday. |

Just to add...I wish there was video from Harvicks car from the Newman crash. I didn't catch a post accident interview from Harvick, as I was scanning
back and forth to the Viking/Packer game. Did they interview him?

I've heard nothing but bad things! lol I had to work all day yesterday, so I barely saw anything except the end of the pre-race, and the very end of the
race in the break room at work.
My mom told me it was terrible, though. Very boring and single-file, and not like a Talladega race at all. Stupid NASCAR. Cassie

My point was that we have a lot of drama here, as does the media, and the fact is the car is safe, so Newman was safe, and we should all be happy about that.
I was listening to Moody on the Sirius show tonight on the way back from bike ride, and he said the only thing Newman said when it was over was that he had to
pee. To me, that speaks volumes...his life was never really in jeopardy any more than any other time these guys strap in. I'm thrilled that NASCAR has
finally accomplished a very safe car. If we can just get all the tracks as safe, with SAFER barriers ALL the way around, not just in the turns, we will have
solved a large portion of the problem...

i wouldn't want to see any driver get killed (seen enough of that) or even seriously injured, but doesn't the idea that nobody is risking their lives
kind of cut down on the excitement level at least a little bit? i grew up admiring the guys that were cheating death, but with cars flying all over the place
and nobody getting at least broken bones, it's kind of hard to believe they're still cheating death.
don't get me wrong, i like that nobody is getting seriously injured, just saying that believing everybody is going to walk away from even the nastiest looking accidents has to cut into the excitement level. with the old car, everybody would have been holding their breath until they saw newman get out of the car...likely on a stretcher and hopefully conscience. today that drama isn't really there, or at least not nearly as much.

First of all, I'm glad a Yuku glitch didn't manage to wipe out what I was thinking. Nice job jh.
wobblypop wrote: I'm in complete agreement that the car is much safer than the old one, and I'm glad for that. I also don't doubt that the tracks are safer but still need some work. Frankly NASCAR needed to so something after nearly having a car loose in the stands earlier this year. Do all that and what have you got? A situation that's still unpredictable and dangerous because the cars will clump up in one big pack, or less and less interesting as you put in place rules to prevent the kind of mistakes that lead to big wrecks. Except that you can't cover all the bases and you'll still get big wrecks, without all that interesting racing. Like yesterday. What do you do? How about fixing the cars so they have to slow down for the corners? You could lower the banking to make that happen, but of course they just finished repaving the place. How about taking enough downforce away from the cars so that they slither and slide around the track like they did in the old days? That would be fun. It would break up the pack and fix it so the cars that handle best with the best drivers would move to the front and separate from the others, too. That sounds like racing to me. BTW, I loved what Mark Martin said in post wreck interview. He said things that NASCAR would find acceptable, but he used a tone and manner that made it clear he was as disgusted as most of us were. By doing so he put the spotlight on the atrocious yet dangerous racing that took place, and the gag rule that we all know keeps drivers from saying what they really think in most cases. |

the only thing Newman said when it was over was that he had to pee. Newman peed alright- all over NASCAR and the way they were running things.

I dont know what race Moody was watching but Newman said a lot and none of it nice. I thought smoke was going to come out of his ears he was so mad. He said
the fans should have walked out during the race. Unless you came just to see the big one and if that was the reason you came you had no business being there.
That may not have been word for word but thats close. He also mentioned the no bump drafting, the yellow line rule and few other things. What he didnt say Mark
finished. Mark wasnt as blunt as Newman but his expression and demeanor got the point across.

The race was pretty good in person, when there weren't single file. Although it is amazing that you can tell how much faster they are going when they are
in single file, especially when you're sitting on the front row! I thought the cautions/everybody running out of gas thing at the end was ridiculous, and
why didn't they throw the caution before they waved the white flag? We thought they had, so we stood in the stands cause we didn't even know the race
was over! We watched a replay of the race when we got home, and the last wreck where Mark Martin went nose first into the wall, if you press pause, you can see
us standing there, he hit right in front of us! I thought that was pretty neat, well, at least when I wasn't ducking, lol.
